San Martino al Cimino, the “pearl” of the Cimini mountain chain, is a tiny village going back to the 17th century in the Lake Vico nature reserve. The hamlet, consisting of simple terraced houses climbing up the slope of the hill, is dominated by the abbey church, built by the Cistercians of Pontigny at the beginning of the 13th century, and by palazzo Pamphili, now a congress and cultural center. A place that is perfect for a quiet walk in the afternoon or for long night-time chats at a table in the Piccini tea room, a few steps from the abbey, which remains open until late.
